Run Leader Rota
The Rota for Apr - Jun is available here.
Please welcome three new Run Leaders on board - Amy Oatway, Lynn Birchall & Caroline Jones.
We are having issues filling the Gold Leader spot on Mondays when Simon Courtney is running one of his increasingly popular Development sessions. Also many usual Gold runners prefer to attend the Development sessions, so Gold attendance is usually low. So we have taken the decision to cancel the Gold runs when this situation occurs.
We want to stress that the Development sessions are suitable for all Bronze, Silver & Gold runners, it's just that the knock on effects of its popularity are only affecting Gold runs (at the moment).

Membership renewal 2023/24
Dear Members.
From April 1st, 2023, it is the start of the new athletic year and this means that memberships need to be renewed for the next year of running with the club.
The membership fee remains at £35 for another year. £17 pays for the athletes individual UKA affiliation fee, while the remaining £18 goes towards the running of the club.
This year the club has added another benefit, to the club running experience, for paid up Stadium Runners members. From the start of this athletic year, members can now run for free, at the very well attended Runners Development Sessions that are held fortnightly, at the Leeds Road Running track.
I will shortly be sending out, an email to each member via the club membership email with all the information and forms necessary to renew and pay your membership.
For those members who would like to pay their membership by cash/cheque or have any particular queries, I will be attending two club sessions on Mon 17th April and Thursday 20th April from 6.pm to 6.30pm, before the club briefing.
Prompt payment would be greatly appreciated and paid for by the latest date of 30th April 2023, to ensure that you membership continues, and you are able to compete in any future runs as a UKA affiliated Stadium Runner, which you may have entered and paid for.
If you know anyone that would be interested in becoming a paid-up member, please pass on the membership email below, so they can contact to find out more information.
Thank you.

AGM Thursday 27th April 2023
Your club needs you!!
Our AGM is coming up on Thursday 27th April, and it's a perfect time to join in the fun and become part of our wonderful club committee!
We do have a vacancy for a specific role, but we are also looking for new committee members to join without title. This would involve attending our monthly committee meetings, usually the last Thursday of the month after our training run, and simply helping out whenever and with whatever you can! We'd love to see some fresh new faces on our committee and to hear new ideas and opinions on club operations. It's so important that we keep things fresh, fun and interesting for our runners, so if you'd like to help us do this, please do join us!
We do have a vacancy for a specific position. Our Run Leaders Representative role is becoming vacant after being held by the lovely Bridget. The role involves supporting our current run leaders, answering queries, ensuring that they are well equipped and have a contact on the committee should they have any requests or problems. The role also involves recruiting new run leaders and supporting them through their course. Our run leaders are vital in our training sessions so it's important that they are supported. Anyone taking on this role would of course have the full support of the committee, and Bridget will be able to pass on her wealth of knowledge to get you going.
If you are interested in taking on this role, please do let me know.
If you would like to know any further information about joining the committee, please contact me, or a fellow committee member, and we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. The committee is made up of a lovely, knowledgeable bunch of runners and it's a really friendly group to join! And what could be more rewarding than helping your fellow runners enjoy their training and racing!
And if none of that encourages you down, there's usually snacks at the AGM.....
Thank you!
Ashleigh Greenwood

Free Stadium Runners Development Sessions
The committee has agreed that Simon's track sessions will be free for our members as of April. A big selling point for those renewing!
I have created a new second booking link, so members can access for free:
The old link is still active and will still charge, so that non members can book on for a £3 charge.

Ever thought about becoming a run leader?
With the light nights just around the corner and the promise of off road running, a couple of Stadium Runners talk about what they love about being a run leader.
Rob Buchanan told us: "I started running with the club around 10 years ago; from the first session I knew that there was a great bunch of people, welcoming friendly and supportive. The simple concept of running back made the runs very accessible and I quickly moved onto running with the gold group. Back then the gold group were often self led, and as a regular runner I started taking a bit of an informal lead on some of the sessions. It was an easy step to decide to do my training and wear the pink bib.
I always enjoy leading or assisting, I usually spend 10 minutes planning a route and try to keep it fresh, for my own joy as much as anything else. The feedback that you get as a run leader makes it worthwhile, there’s always an enquiry about how long is left or how many more hills and we always have a laugh about the run leaders prerogative to tell the odd white lie!
One myth I would try to dispel is that you have to lead from the front, in fact, it’s easier and more effective doing it from the back or the middle. Your runs can be as simple as you like, it doesn’t matter, people will still be very thankful.
I would absolutely recommend it to anyone that asked, our run leaders make me proud to be part of this fantastic club, everyone will tell you how rewarding and fun it is. I’m happy to chat if you have any questions about it. " |
|
A newer rmember of the team, Anouska Higo says: "My main reason for volunteering as a Run Leader was to give something back to the club. I have been a member since 2017 and have always been grateful for the time people put in, to keep the club running so well, so this is my small part.
My sense of direction is shocking (as some of you will have witnessed on my run leads… especially the off road ones!????) But if I can get a group back successfully any of you can do it too - with the biggest bonus being you get to plan routes that you enjoy more.
I did my run lead course, online, in summer 2021. There’s some work to complete beforehand, but nothing too taxing, and then the actual live session is just like chatting it all through with like minded people. You then have a recording to do (of a warm up and a short session) just to show you putting your learning into practice. None of this is anything to be scared of, and I’m sure any of us that have done the course recently will be more than willing to help with any of it.”
Stadium Runners is always very grateful to all our run leaders, new and not so new. Stadium Runners simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of run leaders who regularly give up their time to ensure all the groups stay safe and have a fun and challenging experience. Our run leaders are fantastic and we owe it to them that the Club is able to offer safe and enjoyable runs for all kinds of runners. We are always looking for new run leaders and can offer training, equipment and lots of guidance and support. Our fantastic team of run leaders are flexible and ready to step in if there’s a gap on the rota - but we always welcome new run leaders to join our team so we can share the leads out fairly and offer great runs on club nights.
If you would like to know more about how to join this amazing team, email Bridget at libramac@me.com or ring me on 07540434573. Bridget Hughes

Calderdale Way Relay 2023
The Calderdale Way Relay is an annual event on our club calendar. It is one of Britain's biggest off road running events, dividing the 50 miles of the Calderdale Way route into 6 Legs, to be run in pairs within a team of 12 runners.
This years event is on Sunday 21st May, beginning at Clay House in West Vale and finishing at Spring Hall Track in Halifax a few hours later! Further information on the individual Legs can be found on the official site.
https://www.halifaxharriers.co.uk/.../calderdale-way-relay/
For this years event Stadium Runners have entered 1 Ladies team and 2 Mens teams with the intention to field the 3 strongest teams possible.
'Stadium Runners A' will be selected from a squad of Stadium Runners that myself as Captain and members of the selection committee feel gives us the best chance of success in this year's event. These runners will be chosen based upon performances throughout the XC season, at club and non club races, parkrun results, current training status and consistency as well as past experience of the event. A long list will be formed, and if you feel you would like to be considered for the Stadium A team then you can also put yourself forward. The pairings and Leg choices will be decided by the same selection committee, with input from the eventual squad members themselves considering individual strengths, weaknesses and preferences.
'Stadium Runners B' will be selected from a squad of runners who express an interest to be considered for this years event. You may suggest a preferred Leg you would like to run as well as make a request or add suggestions for partner pairings where appropriate, at which point we will make a decision based upon the runners available and who we feel will work well together for a competitive but enjoyable day out.
For the 'Stadium Runners Ladies' team we would like as many ladies as possible to register an interest in participating in this brilliant event. We have a wealth of talented, committed and motivated runners within the club and we would love to put together a Ladies team that again will be competitive but also enjoy what is a great club day out.
We can’t guarantee that everyone who puts their name down will get a chance to run as places are obviously limited - 36 across the 3 teams - we have in the past been reliant on our reserve list of runners as we get nearer the day and so we would love to see as much interest as possible.
For now, save the date, be ready, because Your Club Needs You!!
To express an interest you can email or message me here;
simon@hd3fitnesscentre.co.uk or 07882836798
