[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - September 2023

Hi Mark

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.

Tue 1st Aug, Tony Audsley Flat Cap 5 - Stadium Calendar Race 6

An old favourite, now renamed in honour of the founder of the race who died in the last 12 months. A fairly flat, forgiving course, with some slightly tricky off road sections and a long canal towpath finish. Here is how Stadium went on:

Thu 3rd Aug, Stadium Hare and Tortoise Run

This event saw the runners paired up with a faster runner teamed up with a not as fast runner. They both set off around a circular course in opposite directions, handed over a banana baton when they met, and then retraced their steps to meet up for the finish. Here is what happened:

1st Thomas Schoolar and Helen Hirst
2nd Kieran O'Prey and Howard Waghorn
3rd Rachael Hey and Amy Oatway
4th David C. Miller and Linda Spencer
5th Mark Davies and James Gudgeon
6th Robert Buchanan and Lee Talbot
7th Matthew Smith and Carl Lecomber
8th Dan Lock and Alexa Schoolar
9th Kathy Armitage and Jo Coop
10th Caroline Smith and Steve Schoolar

Well done to everyone who took part in the Hare and Tortoise run! Thanks to Ashleigh for organising the event.

Sun 20th Aug, Colne Valley 10k Challenge

Stadium return to this Matt Pattison event for the second time. A tough course with two big climbs and a steep downhill finish. Mostly road and good natured track, there was only one short technical downhill. Numbers were down, probably because of the clash with the Women's World Cup Final. Here is how the eleven Stadium Runners took who part got on:

In parkrun, if you don't have your Club set to Stadium Runners - and why wouldn't you? - then your chances of your results appearing in this section are much reduced. You can amend this by editing the Groups option in your parkrun profile.

Run Leader Rota

The latest Rota for Jul - Sep is available here.

We are having issues filling the Gold Leader spot on Mondays when Simon Courtney is running one of his increasingly popular Development sessions. Also many usual Gold runners prefer to attend the Development sessions, so Gold attendance is usually low. So we have taken the decision to cancel the Gold runs when this situation occurs.

We want to stress that the Development sessions are suitable for all Bronze, Silver & Gold runners, it's just that the knock on effects of its popularity are only affecting Gold runs (at the moment).

Orienteering Event with Saul Muldoon - Thursday 26th October

Many of you will know Saul! Saul set up Stadium Runners, managing the club for many years. He ran some great events for the club, and he has kindly offered to come and host an orienteering style event for us on Thursday 26th October.

Saul is keeping the details under wraps so it will be a surprise for us all! What we do know is -

  • The event will take place at our normal training time of 6:30pm at the Stadium
  • You will be paired up for the event. We will pair you up in advance of the event, so we do ask that you book on before the day.
  • Please book via the following link - https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/StadiumRunnerss/BookClass/0b5218be-954f-4322-8d7d-7929429ee2b7
  • Saul will need a contact telephone number to include you in a Whats App group to communicate important information on the night. We can obtain this from the Run Together booking (please contact Ashleigh to discuss any issues). The Whats App group will be deleted after the event.
  • There will be an opportunity to share the results after the run in the Studio

So please get yourselves booked on to this mystery orienteering event....

Simon's Strength & Conditioning for Runners

The venue is Studio 1 at the Stadium Health and Fitness Club, this is the room just to the left of reception on the ground floor, where the Stadium Runners do their pre run briefing .

The sessions are on Mondays, at 6.45pm - straight after the briefing for the Stadium Runners club run.

The future date's so far agreed with the Health Club are;
September 4th & 18th
Oct 2nd and 23rd
Nov 6th and 30th
Dec 11th
Jan 8th and 22nd

(These dates are on the alternate weeks to the track sessions at Leeds Rd for the Runners Development Sessions).

The sessions are available and suitable for anyone and everyone. We won't have access to quite the full array of equipment that we ended up using at HD1 Fitness, but we will continue to challenge you to be a more durable, robust and resilient athlete ready to handle your running volume and intensity as well as recover better.

The sessions will continue to be £5, with preferred payment via the details below or cash on the night. Please let me know if you intend to come from week to week, as before I will send a reminder message out a day or so before for confirmation of attendees.

£5 per session

Both sessions are still nice and busy – track is usually high 20s and S & C is low 20s with the majority of them being our runners and some from ‘other’ clubs.
