Happy New Year

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
From Monday 4th December 2023 onwards our runs will be from KAL's Huddersfield Leisure Centre on Spring Grove St. We will meet in the foyer before our runs. We can use the toilets & the changing rooms. The car parks are free after 6pm.
Sun 7th Jan, WYWL 3 - Stadium Runners @ Storthes Hall

A return to the bleak, post apocalyptic wasteland that is Storthes Hall before heading off into the woods for a pleasant ramble skipping through the the woods. Most Stadium Runners were doing a excellent job marshaling on the course, but some lucky so-and-sos managed to sneak in a quick run:

Sat 13th Jan, 11th Stadium Club Championship Race - Oakwell Hall parkrun

A slightly rejigged start and finish since the parkrun restarted at Oakwell, but essentially the same two lap course. I would have expected a bigger Stadium turnout, but here is how the 14 Stadium Runners got on and the results on the day:

This course was missing off the WYWL Calendar in 2023, so a welcome return in 2024. Starting with a one mile lap of the field to spread things out, there is then a one and a half lap in the woods before a downhill finish back in the field. Here is what happened Stadium-wise:

Sun 3rd Dec, Valencia Marathon. Helen Ansell finished in a PB of 3:02:39 which we think is the second fastest female marathon time at Stadium Runners, behind Lynn’s club record! Apologies, I missed this off last month's newsletter.

Sat 30th Dec, IGUN Bridlington New Year Bonanza 10k. Jacqueline Carter came 58th in 1:06:21.

Mon 1st Jan, Giant's Tooth Fell Race. Kieran O'Prey came 27th in 21:47.
Sat 6th Jan, Tatton 10k. Luc Burnip came 2nd in 35:16.
Sat 20th Jan, Inskip Half. Peter Martin came 5th in 1:16:10.

Sun 21st Jan, Brass Monkey Half. Andrew Bowett came.147th in 1:18:43, Jamie Brannan came 180th in 1:20:00, Michelle Haigh came 1168th in 1:51:20.
Sun 21st Jan, Essar Four Village Half. Joe Baker came 24th in 1:16:19, Helen Ansell came 181st in 1:29:02.

Mon 1st Jan 2024 New Year's Day

Huddersfield. Simon Courtney came 1st in 16:59, Peter Martin came 2nd in 17:05, Leo Timmins came 3rd in 17:29, Michael Cottam came 5th in 17:53, Henry Carter came 7th in 18:08, Matthew Pierson came 9th in 18:22, Andrew Bowett came 10th in 18:36, Lynn Birchall came 75th in 22:24 and was 5th female.

A massive Stadium performance - podium 1-2-3, 7 out of the top 10 and a huge turnout of around 30 Stadium Runners. Very well done all.

Sat 6th Jan

Horton Park. Joe Baker came 3rd in 18:51.
Potternewton. Matt Pattison came 9th in a PB 21:03.

In parkrun, if you don't have your Club set to Stadium Runners - and why wouldn't you? - then your chances of your results appearing in this section are much reduced. You can amend this by editing the Groups option in your parkrun profile.
Run Leader Rota

The latest Rota for Jan - Mar is available here.

We have decided to christen the last Thursday of each month Step Up Thursday. The idea is that Bronze runners should think about stepping up to Silver, and Silver runners should think about stepping up to Gold. The Run Leaders will plan routes with this in mind (honest!) and will look after you, as ever.

We are having issues filling the Gold Leader spot on Mondays when Simon Courtney is running one of his increasingly popular Development sessions. Also many usual Gold runners prefer to attend the Development sessions, so Gold attendance is usually low. So we have taken the decision to cancel the Gold runs when this situation occurs.

We want to stress that the Development sessions are suitable for all Bronze, Silver & Gold runners, it's just that the knock on effects of its popularity are only affecting Gold runs (at the moment).

Full results & standings are on the website here. Mark Davies and Kathy Armitage are still leading both the Grand Prix & WAVA competitions, but other Stadium Runners are closing in.

The Stainland WYWL race has been added to the calendar - although it does clash with the Hoppits Hill Fell Race - both on Sun 25th Feb.

Both races at Dentdale on Sat 9th March at 1pm are now on the calendar - the longer 14.2m & the shorter 7.9m.

11 races gone, still 5 races left on 3 separate dates - get those races booked.
Club Championship 2024/25

The Club Championship for next year is still being put together, but I can confirm that these two favourites will be on the calendar, so feel free to go ahead and book a place.

Due to the closure of the Stadium complex, I am back on the hunt for a new venue, with a view to hopefully restarting the sessions in the New Year.

Rockhopper Running

The Rockhoppers have three sessions per week. ????      
                                                   
We have the Saturday morning session starting at 9.00 meeting at various coffee shops with a 6 mile off road run, then refreshments afterwards at the cafe. The pace is a steady silver pace. This session is every fortnight.

Then we have the new Hills & Speed session, starting this Tues 3rd Oct and this will go through to next Easter???? meeting at 18.30 until 19.30

We also have a beginner session or if you are coming back from injury - Let’s Start Running. This session is on Saturday mornings at 11.30 for one hour, meeting at the War Memorial in Greenhead Park every week.

So please book on if you fancy some brilliant off road running, Hills & Speed work or the beginners session. ????
