[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - September 2018

Hi

Welcome to the relauch of the Stadium Runners newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners.

Kirkstall Abbey 7m Trail, Sun 23rd Sep
22 Stadium Runners made the journey to Leeds on a cool, September morning to take part in this race new to our calendar. Starting with a quick loop in the grounds of the Abbey, the route featured road, off road and canal towpath sections. The swag at the end included a bottle of Saltaire Blonde - result! All our runners performed brilliantly, but here are the highlights:

Top 3 males:
1st - Simon Courtney 40:19 (3rd overall)
2nd Jamie Brannan 41:33
3rd - Tom Jagger 43:22

The men also won the male team prize!

Top 3 females:
1st - Ashleigh Greenwood 48:51 (3rd lady overall)
2nd - Michaela Goodall 52:11
3rd - Amy Oatway 60:12

Stairway to Heaven 12K Trail, Sat 29th Sep, 11am

Stadium Runners return to this stonking event for the second year in a row. Stairway To Heaven is a challenging, hilly course towards Ramsden reservoir and the forested paths around Hade Edge. It climbs from the reservoirs of Holmbridge to Elysium farm and down to Holme Styes before climbing back up and home.

Over 20 Stadium Runners have already entered. A very few places remain - the website says that entry on the day is available, but this may not be the case if the race is full.

West Yorkshire Winter League Cross Country
This season, the WYWL will be using an online entry system where every runner will have the opportunity to purchase a season pass. The £6 cost includes the admin fee, and entitles you to run all six races, the PECO relays if you're selected, race number, pins, complimentary Buff if you start 5 races and a subsidised end-of-season presentation night.

This has proved really popular, and the initial 500 passes sold out in a couple of days. A further 250 passes were released, and these have now sold out too.

The WYWL are aware that some regulars have missed the cut-off for the season pass. If you still want to take part contact our club representatives - Ashleigh Greenwood or Claire Smith. Once they have agreement from the WYWL club reps on how to proceed, they will let you know.

If you have successfully got your season pass, please put the above race dates in your diary.

Marsden 10 Mile Challenge 2019

Stadium Runners are pleased to announce we will be hosting the Marsden 10 Mile Race in conjunction with Colne Valley Lions on Sunday 9th June 2019 at 10am.

This is a popular mainly off-road race, culminating in a fast downhill descent from Wessenden Head into Marsden and was last run in 2016. We will be using the same course.

We are still finalising details but would hope to have online and postal entries available from November. The event is designed to raise money for local charities and entry will be in the region of £15. There will be an entry limit of 300 runners.

Awards Night
To bring our race calendar in line with the UKA membership year (April - March) and to give us something to look forward to in the depths of winter, our Awards Night will take place on Saturday 16th February 2019.
Club Discounts

Sportshoes.com - use the September code to get 10% discount and free delivery
Up & Running - show your club membership card to get a 10% discount
Finally

That's all for now. If you have anything that you want including in a future newsletter, or you have any questions on anything in this edition, then please contact me.

Cheers

Mark

Contributions are really appreciated: If you run with Stadium Runners and have an experience or observation you want to write about, please send it in using the contact form. Your entry should have something to do with running! It could be a race report, stuff about training or nutrition, a book review etc.
