[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - September 2020

Hi

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
Training Nights

Our Bronze, Silver and Gold Groups continue on a Monday and Thursday night at 6:30pm. The sessions will be open to affiliated Stadium Runners only (those that have renewed their membership with our Membership Secretary Alison Cottam).

Each group will have a maximum of 12 participants (1 Run Leader and 11 members). We are following guidance from our National Governing Body UK Athletics who state that groups of up to 12 people can run together in a ‘Covid secure’ environment. We have completed a risk assessment and assigned a Lead (Rob Buchanan) who is happy to answer any Covid-related queries. Note: there will be no Run Assist for now, but this will be kept under review.

For the period up to the end of September Stadium Runners will operate independently from KAL for ease of Covid risk management for both parties. We will meet in the top car park at the Stadium. Please be aware that you will not have access to KAL facilities (toilets/changing rooms), so make sure you arrive at training ready to run.

We ask that you conform to current social distance and hygiene guidance during training and please do not attend if you or anyone in your household is displaying Covid symptoms.

How to Book:

For the months of July - September the Bronze, Silver and Gold Groups will be free of charge to affiliated Stadium Runners. It will not matter whether you are a KAL member or not.

We will be using the ‘RunTogether’ booking platform. This is a system hosted by UKA. You will need to register an account with them in order to book onto sessions. You can do this by clicking on the following link:

https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/Account/SignUp

We have made our sessions ‘private’ so that only Stadium Runners can book onto them. If you search the website you will not be able to find the Club and/or sessions. You will need to book on using the following links (we recommend that you bookmark them to your computer/phone browser). We ask that the links are not shared with non-members:

Stadium RunTogether Bronze Runs
Stadium RunTogether Silver Runs
Stadium RunTogether Gold Runs

We appreciate that there is only limited availability and ask that you be considerate to other members. Please only book onto one training night per week during these early stages. Some of you may miss out and we are sorry. However, if there are still spaces available on the day of your non booked session, you can book on and attend.

The Bronze session will have an "Assist" run leader, so that a split can be done if required.

Please attend if you are booked on or cancel with plenty of notice (you can do this via ‘my booked runs’ on the RunTogether website).

We will regularly review the number of groups and participants, taking into account Run Leader availability and the guidance provided by UKA and the Government.

It is great to see that various friendship bubble runs have been organised throughout lockdown and we hope this continues whilst training night spaces are limited. Please note that any friendship bubble runs are not official Stadium Runners runs and participants run at their own risk. We do encourage these runs to follow the guidance provided by UKA:

https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/guidance-update-for-restricted-return-to-activity-for-coaches-leaders-athletes-runners-and-facilities-step-3/

We hope the above is clear, but do do let us know if you have any questions.

Stadium Runners Development Sessions

We've had a bit of a rebrand and refresh of the session plans. The sessions will now be known as the 'Stadium Runners Development Sessions' (replacing the previous No Pain, No Gain). The sessions will take place on alternate Mondays, and we're currently taking bookings for 10.08, 24.08, 07.09 and 21.09. The sessions will be £3 each to be paid on booking. This money will go directly into the club.

Simon has put together a bit of info about the sessions. They won't just be track or hills. They'll include a whole range of things to help our club members become stronger runners.

Aiming to improve your running ability no matter what your current level is, the Stadium Runners Development Sessions will help you to run more efficiently therefore making running easier, make you more resilient to niggles and injuries by improving the way you move, and challenge you occasionally to be comfortable with being uncomfortable which we know is important in order to see improvements in race performances or during other challenging runs. The content of the sessions will include running form work and technique drills, mini circuits developing strength, mobility and co-ordination, with some hard work included in the form of our usual track or loops out on the roads.

As with all other sessions, they're currently only available through a direct link on Run Together. The link is as follows

Some Actual Racing!

It has been a while, but some Stadium Runners have actually been racing!

First out of the blocks was Gareth Eagleton with the Tatton 10K on the Sun 9th Aug, with it claiming to be the first ever socially distanced 10k in the UK. He clocked a time of 40:40, his 2nd fastest 10K time. Then on the 15th Aug, he ran the Brighouse 5K in 20:09.

On Sun 16th Aug, Leo Timmins took part in the EVOLVE Triathlon. He clocked 0:40 for the 2k swim, 2:53 for the 94k bike ride & 1:26 for the 20k run.

On Sat 22nd Aug, Joe Baker did the IGUN Canal Canter Comeback Marathon, He came 3rd in 3:07:19.

On Sat 29th Aug, Ashleigh Greenwood & Joe Baker both ran the IGUN Temple Newsam Trail Marathon in a time of 3:58. It was Joe's 40th marathon and Ashleigh was 1st lady!

Brilliant work everyone! More races to come, hopefully. Apologies if I missed your race.
