Beck Busters 10K, Sun 15th Sep, 11am |
|
A "lucky 13" Stadium Runners (Nicki missing from the photo) made the journey up to the picturesque village of Bishop Monkton, near Harrogate for the Beck Busters 10K. Leading up to the start, the skies darkened, but in the end it stayed dry for the race itself. It is a lovely course over varied terrain, but nothing too technical. We were warned about the possibility of encountering chickens en route, but they never materialised. The beck crossing at the end was an enjoyable way to clean your running shoes.
Top 3 Females
29th Lynn Birchall 43:18 (1st Female)
50th Michaela Goodall 46:38 (1st FSEN)
65th Rachael Hey 47:19 (2nd FSEN)
Top 3 Males
12th Jonny Cartwright 40:34
40th Mark Davies 44:36 (1st M60)
44th Adam Goodall 45:10
Bridget Hughes was 1st F60.

Super running by everyone.

Wiggle Manchester Half Marathon, Sun 13th Oct, 9am |
|
The next event on the Club Calendar is this flat half, with great PB potential, but also an ideal first half marathon. Race numbers have already been posted out (except for late entrants, Jonny), and it looks like we will be well represented on the day. It is a big race, with over 10,000 finishers last year. Car parking looks to be a bit of an issue, as there are no plans to open an official car park. Car sharing and a bit of planning would be wise.
The start is by Old Trafford football ground, and the finish by Old Trafford cricket ground. Full route is here.

Lynn Birchall runs for England!
Lynn has followed in Bridget’s footsteps and been selected for the England Masters team. In her case it’s for the 10K and she was picked by running 38:37 to finish first in her age category F45 at the City of Salford selection race. That time is also a Club record for the women's 10K.
Full Salford results here.
Awesome running Lynn.

Our annual, eagerly awaited, Pumpkin Run returns on Thu 31st Oct. From what I recall, teams run round the district, carrying a pumpkin per team, and are charged with taking photos of said pumpkin in front of various places/objects in order to earn points. The most points wins. Fancy dress encouraged. |

Stadium Runners Club Records Page
The Stadium Runners Club records page on the website was looking a bit out of date. I have updated it - and it is now clean sweeps for both Luc & Lynn (commiserations to Simon & Jamie). If I have got anything wrong, please let me know.

West Yorkshire Winter League Cross Country 2019/20 |
|
You may have already seen, but we have the pleasure of hosting a WYWL race this season! Our race will be at Storthes Hall on Sunday 9th of Feb 2020 and we have an awesome route in mind! Ashleigh, Jonny and Rob will let you know more details soon and we’ll be in need of plenty of volunteers to make our event a huge success! ???? Add your name to the list on the notice board if you can help. There will be walk rounds prior to the event. Any questions, then speak to Nicki or Jonny.
Season passes went on sale on Tue 1st Oct - now £10 for 6 races, a bargain.
The link to get your pass is here. The league is exclusive and these races are only for fully paid-up members of Stadium Runners.
There was a big demand last year, so make sure that you do not miss out.

Calendar / Cross Country Clash Conundrum
(I missed my vocation writing headlines for the Sun)
Planners amongst us will have noticed that the Pudsey XC clashes with Sir Titus Trot 10K & 10M on our Race Calendar, meaning that members will not be able to complete all XC and Race Calendar events.
Sadly there was always a chance that this could happen, and as some members have already entered Sir Titus Trot, it would not be fair to find an alternative replacement race.
Note that the Sir Titus Trot starts at 11am 10K / 10am 10m, so it will not be possible to run a double with Pudsey. I know that Darren will be disappointed.
In future years, the Club will consider not confirming the last third of the Race Calendar until the WYWL fixtures have been released.
Haweswater HM and the Windmill 6M dates have now been confirmed so look out for news from your Race Secretary Matt Smith over the next couple of weeks on which WYWL race and Dewsbury parkrun will be included in this year’s Race Calendar.

The public London Marathon ballot results will start landing in your inbox week commencing 7th October. Good luck to those who have applied! If you miss out, remember to keep evidence of your rejection for a second chance in the club’s own ballot. We’re likely to have 1 place up for grabs (tbc). The club’s ballot will be drawn on a training night before Christmas. Further news will follow via the newsletter and members’ Facebook Group.

This came via Jonny, and I originally published it back in the May Newsletter, but he asked nicely if I could put it in again in case anyone missed it.
Contrast baths are used to provide treatment that causes alternating periods and conditions of the blood vessel dilation and constriction at the injury site.
They should ONLY be used once the swelling and bleeding have been controlled
Contrast baths should be used from 48 -72 hours after following an injury. It promotes healing and aids in the absorption of the remaining swelling around the injury site.
The treatment should be carried out 3 times per day (in accordance with the table below) and combine it with non-weight bearing exercises, working within a “pain free” range of motion.
DAILY PROGRESSION OF TREATMENT
|
Day 3 – 4 after injury
First 2 days of baths |
Day 5 – 6 after injury
Next 2 days of baths |
Day 7-8 after injury
Final 2 days of baths

Subject - anything you like with at least a vague running connection. It could be a race report, stuff about training or nutrition, a book review etc.
