[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - November 2019

Hi

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
Wiggle Manchester Half Marathon, Sun 13th Oct, 9am
(photos Adam Goodall)

It was a damp morning in Manchester, but 38 Stadium Runners braved the elements, parking issues & entry fee to get to the start line. It was a big, well organised event on flat closed roads, but where was the t-shirt? Our top three females & males were:

1. Lynn Birchall          1:26:14
2. Michaela Goodall   1:36:04
3. Anthea Bitcon         1:36:26

1. Luc Burnip             1:09:46
2. Simon Courtney     1:14:23
3. Jamie Brannan       1:14:27

We had 5 runners in the top 100 - Luc 19th, Simon 53rd, Jamie 54th, Tom 84th, Leo 88th. Lynn was 23rd female & 1st F45, and Bridget was 1st F60. That's from a field of 11299 finishers!

We also had PBs for Luc, Simon, Jamie, Tom, Leo, Steve C, Lynn, Nick, Anthea, David S, Martin F, Matt S, Martin W, Kim & Liz. 15 of you! Awesome work.

And it was the first Half Marathon for Melanie, Claire, Val & Gareth - brilliant.

Finally, both Luc & Lynn set new Club records for the Half Marathon.

Full results here - select the Half Marathon & then search for Stadiu to get 37 runners (as someone can't spell - Martin W, also Val not listed as a Stadium Runner).

Superb effort Stadium Runners!

Guy Fawkes 10 Mile, Sun 3rd Nov, 10:30am (not 10am, as previously advertised)
This super race returns to the calendar this year after a 3 year absence. A lovely hilly race, mostly on roads apart from the start & finish, and in beautiful countryside. Watch out for the congested 1st mile, and the big hill at mile 3.

If you have booked on the coach, it leaves from the Stadium at 7:45am sharp.
West Yorkshire Winter League Cross Country 2019/20
Race 1 in the WYWL is at Baildon at 10:30am on Sun 17th Nov. From what I remember, it's a tour of paths around the moors, and a bit exposed up on the tops. Let's see if we can get a big Stadium turnout to start the season.

You may have already seen, but we have the pleasure of hosting a WYWL race this season! Our race will be at Storthes Hall on Sunday 9th of Feb 2020 and we have an awesome route in mind! Ashleigh, Jonny and Rob will let you know more details soon and we’ll be in need of plenty of volunteers to make our event a huge success! ???? Add your name to the list on the notice board if you can help. There will be walk rounds prior to the event. Any questions, then speak to Nicki or Jonny.
Race Calendar

A few bits of information regarding upcoming races on the calendar.

The WYWL race chosen for the calendar is Queensbury on Sunday 19th Jan.

Regarding the Dewsbury Parkrun on the calendar, I considered it more flexible for you all to give you the month of February to give it your best shot rather than choose a specific date.

Feel free to run as many times as you like and just email me your quickest time at the end of February to M.Smith@simplybiz.co.uk so I can add it to the championship.

Finally, Haweswater Half Marathon is open for entries on Sunday 1st March, the club will be booking a coach (either free or subsidised), so get signing up  - book here.

Thanks

Matt

Pumpkin Run

The Bronze Bats were crowned winners of the 2019 Pumpkin Run, well done ladies and gents!

6 members got the fancy dress memo (pictured below, plus Linda) with Bridget winning best dressed.

Everyone got the food memo (standard Stadium Runners) and we had post-run treats galore.

A big thank you to organisers Linda, Ashleigh & Amy and your run leaders Rob, Dan, Mark, Bridget and Liz.

More England Masters News

Anthea has followed in Bridget & Lynn’s footsteps and been selected for the England Masters team. In her case it’s for the Marathon and she was selected by running  3:34:10 to finish 12th in her age category FV45 at the Chester Marathon selection race. Well done!

Following her run at York Marathon, Bridget has again been selected for England Masters, despite running with a broken elbow! Superb.
Welcome to the Fab Four

Stadium Runners is delighted to welcome four new members into our fantastic team of run leaders.

Saima Hussain has been running for number of years now but when her running partner moved away 5 years ago, she came to Stadium Runners to encourage her to continue running through the dark winter evenings.

“Stadium runners have pushed me further than I would have pushed myself and I’ve met some lovely people too.
I decided to go for the run leader course as I wanted to give something back to the club and to help others run and do well just as the club had helped and motivated me”
Jess Earnshaw decided to put herself forward to become a run leader when she was stuck at home, feeling very sorry for herself, recovering from a broken wrist.
“I'm looking forward to becoming a run leader for my amazing fellow Stadium Runners”
Melanie Tasker says after hating running at school before discovering the joy of it through parkrun and then the wonderful Stadium Runners, she would never have thought she’d actually become a run leader.
“I'm looking forward to giving something back to the club and encouraging the Brilliant Bronze group to keep on going”
Twin Claire Tasker is also looking forward to becoming run leader.
"I can't wait to start doing my stuff as a run leader (well, Bronze Assist!). I enjoy volunteering at parkrun where I love being as vocal as possible to encourage people to do their best and see run leading as an extension of that - only I get to run with some amazing people at the same time"
We’re very excited that we will finally be able to tell  the twins apart when only of them is wearing a pink bib (please don’t put them on the rota on the same day!).

They will all be shadowing current leaders up to Christmas and then joining the rota as fully-fledged run leaders in January.

We are so grateful to all run leaders, new and not so new. Stadium Runners simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of run leaders who regularly give up their time to ensure all the groups stay safe and have a fun and challenging experience. If you would like to join this amazing team, speak to me on a club night or email libramac@me.com.

Sowerby Snails @ Stadium

Following on from the success of the Away Run to Sowerby Snails, we’ve invited them over to the Hudd on Weds 20 Nov! We’ll start from Lockwood Park KAL at 7pm and run our usual groups up to Castle Hill and surrounding area.

Then we’ll head to the Shoulder of Mutton at Lockwood for food afterwards at £2 per head. Meat & veggi options, probably chilli or similar.

If you want food, please add your name to the list which is on the noticeboard .

Car parking at Lockwood Park KAL site, please car share if possible.

Thanks to Jonny & Nicki for organising this.

London Marathon Ballot

Congratulations if you are one of the lucky few who has been successful in the public ballot. Best of luck with your training!

Those who missed out may have a second chance. We will hopefully be allocated ONE club place but this will not be confirmed until November. If a place is confirmed, the ballot will be drawn following our Christmas Run on Monday 23rd December.

Taking into account how popular the event has become and how hard it is to get a place, please could we ask that going forward, the winning member refrains from entering in the future club ballots. This is as a courtesy, to give fellow members who haven’t won previously a better chance to run the iconic event.

Anyone wishing to be included in the ballot should forward their official rejection email to amy.oatway@hotmail.co.uk.

Amy
