Bronze, Silver & Gold Groups
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the places on our runs have been limited to just 11 plus Run Leader(s). From Thu 6th May, we will be increasing this to 12 plus Run Leader(s). We hope to extend this to our usual 24 soon, considering any guidelines we have to follow and the availability of our Run Leaders.

In the meantime, we wanted to refresh everyone's memory on the structure and pace of our Bronze, Silver and Gold groups, just to make sure everyone is able to run with the most suitable group for them each week.

Bronze - The Bronze group typically covers around 5-6.5 miles at roughly a 10-12 minute mile pace. Our Bronze group currently has a Run Leader and Run Assist runner.

Silver - The Silver group usually covers between 6 and 8 miles. The pace of this group is around 8 - 10 minute miles dependant on the route, which is likely to involve more elevation. The Silvers currently have a Run Leader and we will be reintroducing a Silver Assist from Thu 6th May. This will allow us to offer a split, if required.

Gold - The Gold group tends to cover a minimum of 8 miles, often running up to 10 miles. The routes are slightly more challenging and will be covered at around 8 minute miles, although this is subject to the route plan and elevation. The Gold group has a Run Leader and does not have a Run Assist.

With all of our groups, we run back, meaning no one ever gets left behind. A regroup point will be given by the Run Leader and the quicker runners will always loop back for those at a steadier pace. So, if you feel ready to change your group and up your pace, you can be assured that you will be well looked after!

We know that there isn't one particular group that will fit each runner all the time, and encourage all runners to run in the group most appropriate to their current level of fitness and ability. If you are unsure which group is the right one for you, then please do drop us a message or chat to a Run Leader and we'll point you in the right direction!

Thank you

Ashleigh

Important Notice: Change of location - Return to the Stadium!

Hello,

Me again......sorry! But I bring good news!

I have been informed by KAL that we can return to the Stadium as of Thursday 6th May!

There are a few things to be aware of -

  - The car parks are private land operated by KSDL, not KAL
  - We must park in the Town Avenue car park (This is the parking area over the bridge)
  - We must follow the instructions of KSDL staff and the car park stewards
  - The vaccination programme is still ongoing and is due to double in volume, so more people will be using the car parks
  - KSDL may remove the parking provision if any individual is rude towards their staff

Apparently, when we were initially turned away (which I know came as a surprise) one of our runners was rude to the car parking staff. I don't know what was said and don't intend to ask any questions at all. It sounds like things may have been exaggerated! However, we need to be aware that we need to be compliant with their parking instructions and by polite to their staff, which I know everyone will be, otherwise we will be turned away again.

Once we have parked, please head up to the top car park and we will gather there to meet our groups. I'm not sure if there will be any directional signage in place for the vaccine centre, but if there is then please abide by this. You may have to walk to the main bridge to cross, and then return to your car via the white foot bridge, but we'll check this out on Thursday.

There are a couple of sports fixtures coming up over the summer so we'll return to Leeds Road for these, but they're not for a while yet.

If you have any questions then please do let me know. It'll be nice to return to our proper zones!

Thank you

Ashleigh
Heights Trail 10k

Over 20 Stadium Runners are already signed up for the Heights Trail 10k https://heightsultratrail.co.uk/ on Sat 10 July. Why not join in give it a go?

Also, there are some Stadium Runners signed up for the Ultra Trail 50k, but that is now full. There is still room on the Ultra Trail 50m event, if that is your thing.
Calderdale Way Relay
This superb off road team event was cancelled in 2020, but it is planned to hold the 2021 race on Sun 26th September. Keep the date free in your diaries, and hopefully more information will be available soon. Teams consist of 6 pairs of runners plus reserves, and we have entered 3 team in recent years, so there is plenty of scope for everyone who wishes to participate.
West Yorkshire Winter League 2021-2022
Stadium are to host the 7th fixture on the 13th (eek) of Feb, and Tom Jagger has stepped in to organise the event. More news from him soon.

Keep the dates free in your diaries, especially Sun 13th Feb 2022, when lots of help will be needed to put on the event hosted by Stadium.
London Marathon Ballot
The public London Marathon ballot results have been announced. Congratulations if you have been successful! If you missed out, don’t delete that rejection email just yet...

We will hopefully be allocated ONE club place, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Once confirmed, we will have a club ballot to determine the recipient of the place. If you are lucky enough to have won a club place in the past, we ask that you don’t enter again.

To be included in the ballot, you must provide evidence of your 2021 rejection email, so keep your email safe and await further news/instruction.

Return of parkrun
Following the publication of the Government’s roadmap for exiting lockdown, parkrun are excited to share their plans to restart both junior and 5k parkrun events across England.

Junior parkrun events across England were able to return from Sunday 11 April 2021 for children aged 4-10 only. Huddersfield, Tolson & Beaumont Park Junior parkruns all resumed on Sun 25th Apr.

All 5k parkrun events across England will hopefully return on Saturday 5 June 2021, though the landowners for Huddersfield & Storthes Hall parkruns have not yet given permission.

This year's AGM took place on Wednesday 21st April at 7.30pm via Zoom.

Membership Renewal

Your club needs you!!!

Firstly, thank you to all members that renewed with us last year and have continued to support and run with the club during Covid and lockdown restrictions.

We are now contacting our current members and those members that did not re-join for the last athletic year to advise about renewal membership processes and let you know what proposals we have for running over the next year. Of course, plans may have to change, depending on how the pandemic develops.

As current guidelines are indicating that we can resume organised running from 29th March 2021, the committee have been undertaking some preparatory work to enable group running to recommence and have put together a rota to enable the three ability groups to operate led by qualified Run Leaders (RL). Within the Bronze group there will also be a RL assist both on Monday and Thursdays, allowing for a bigger group and offering a split where necessary.

As we are currently running as an independent running club due to our partnership with KAL unable to resume, runners wanting to attend the run sessions must be paid up registered affiliated runners with UK Athletics. This is for insurance purposes both as a group and individually, and to ensure we remain compliant with Covid regulated guidance. We hope that we will be able to resume our relationship with KAL as soon as possible. We will keep you informed about this.

New membership Fee

£30 for Athletic year April 2021- March 2022.

£15 of this fee will be paid to UKA for each person’s individual affiliation payment.

The remaining money will go towards enabling the club to develop running sessions and events that we hope will become possible to arrange, as we move forward out of the Covid restrictions.

All group running sessions, for registered club members, will currently remain free, but reviewed, when we discuss with KAL, our partnership agreement.

However, to help these sessions operate safely and be well organised the club are committed to investing in the required UKA training for all Run Leaders who volunteer their time to lead sessions. We also operate and administer the run booking app, Run Together.

To enable a good level of communication and keep members up to date with all the club news, we issue a monthly newsletter, including the Sports Shoes 10% discount code. We also have dedicated private members Facebook page and a website, which we are in the process of investing in and upgrading.

Other benefits offered by UKA include various discount offers, opportunities and promotions which can be found in their monthly newsletters that are emailed out and your membership offers discounts on most race entries.

In terms of running events for members, but dependant on Covid rules allowing, the club will pay and register with the West Yorkshire X country league, West Yorkshire Veterans league and the Calderdale Way Relay.

When we feel confident to promote races, we will also be putting together a race championship. It is likely to be a shortened season, but we really want to offer something as we have all really missed racing over the last year.

Registered members, for a small fee, will also be able to book onto the running development sessions that are offered currently on a two weekly basis which run alongside the regular organised run sessions.

Information about the renewal process will be sent out by email and for any new members wanting to join the club please contact the me.

Thank you.

Run Leaders Required

Stadium Runners is always very grateful to all our run leaders, new and not so new. Stadium Runners simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of run leaders who regularly give up their time to ensure all the groups stay safe and have a fun and challenging experience. But particularly over the last few months, our run leaders have been fantastic and we owe it to them that the Club has been able to offer safe and enjoyable sessions again.

We are always looking for new run leaders and can offer training, equipment and lots of support. The chance to say “not far now” and “that’s all the hills done” and other well known motivational (but not always true) phrases.

This course is now available as a virtual course. England Athletics have announced a number of dates for a new online Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) course, and they plan to release more dates in the future.

If you would like to know more about how to join this amazing team, email Bridget at libramac@me.com or ring me on 07540 434573
