Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
Sun 8th May Bluebell Trail

Another lovely morning for the second race on the Stadium Calendar. The bluebell woods were pretty firm underfoot (I'm told the bluebells were out, but I was too busy watching my feet), Trooper Lane was, well, Trooper Lane and the river crossing was lovely. A massive turnout of 33 Stadium runners ran on the day - most of them originally booked on the cancelled 2020 run. This is how they got on:

Sun 15th May Calderdale Way Relay
Yet another lovely day for the Calderdale Way Relay. All our teams did brilliantly. A total of 88 teams took part.

The Stadium Men's A Team came 8th in the Open competition.

The Stadium Men's B Team came 26th in the Open competition.

The Stadium Open Team came 37th in the Open competition.

The Stadium Ladies Team came 9th in the Ladies competition.
Excellent!

Massive thanks to Jonny & Nikki Cartwright and Kieran O'Prey for all their efforts in organising the teams. They were faced with almost insurmountable efforts when faced with several last minute (and not so last minute) drop ours, but they got there in the end!

Special kudos to Andy Pigg who rose to the last minute challenge and ran both leg 1 & leg 6 for the Open team!
Sun 29th May Buxton Half Marathon
The combined effects of the Giants & Town both being in London the same weekend meant a much reduced turnout at the Buxton Half, the third race on our Club Calendar. Seven hardy runners who weren't bothered about the sporting events (John Cottam??) turned out and ran:

Andrew Doig was 36th in 1:32:01 and was 2nd M55.
Gareth Eagleton was 41st in 1:33:11.
James Hughes was 55th in 1:36:05.
Kieran Welsh was 75th in 1:39:12.
Ian Whalley was 91st in 1:42:24.
John Cottam was 168th in 1:54:42.
David Miller was 201st in 1:58:33.

Other Racing! - Corrections from last issue

Huge apologies to Alastair for getting his name wrong and transposing digits in his marathon result - Sun 10th Apr, Brighton Marathon. Alastair Wareham came 97th in 2:53:48.

Apologies to Kieran for missing his result - Sat 23 Apr, Newlands Memorial Fell Race. Kieran O'Prey came 84th in 2:18:41.

Sat 7th May, Lakelands Trail, Staveley. Ian Whalley came 54th in 1:41:58.

Sat 7th May, Kong Buttermere Sailbeck. Kieran O'Prey came 70th in 2:19:41.

Sun 8th May, Leeds Half Marathon. Tom Howarth came 89th in 1:25:36.
Sun 15th May, Chester Half Marathon. Joe Baker came 23rd in 1:14:36. Val Sullivan came 1952nd in 2:08:17.

Wed 18th May, Blackstone Edge Fell Race. Kieran O'Prey
Sun 22nd May, Windermere Marathon. Matthew Pierson came 1st in 2:40:49. Simon Courtney came 2nd in 2:41:49. Andrew Bowett came 7th in 2:53:02 and was 1st MV40. Michael Cottam came 30th in 3:10:44 in his first marathon. Kieran O'Prey came 93rd in 3:38:08.

Sun 22nd May Southport Triathlon. Peter Martin came 142nd in 2:24:44.

Sun 22nd May, YVAA Grand Prix 1 Holmfirth. Matt Pattison came 21st in 45:02. Ian Du Feu came 48th in 48:50. John Cottam came 133rd in 61:51. Fiona Willis came 146th in 65:01.

Wed 25th May, Dovestone Diamond. Darren Earnshaw came 30th in 45:53. Mark Davies came 66th in 51:12 and as 1st MV60. John Cottam came 136th in 1:00:05. Dan North came 188th in 1:11:42.

Sat 28th May, Helvellyn & Dodds Fell Race. Darren Earnshaw came 82nd in 3:25:33.

Sun 29th May, Edinburgh Marathon. Joe Baker came 9th in 2:33:36. Tom Howarth came 409th in 3:04:22. Chrissy Sunderland came 2813rd in 3:54:51.
Sun 29th May, Brecon Beacons Ultra. Michaela Goodall finished 11th in 7:10:10 and was 2nd female. Adam Goodall finished 12th in 7:10:11.

parkrun Highlights

Sat 7th May Huddersfield was cancelled, so Stadium Runners were spread far & wide:
Brighouse, Joe Baker came 1st in 16:41.
Centre Vale, Todmorden, Matthew Donnelly came 8th in 22:21.
Chadderton Hall, Michael Cottam came 1st in 20:10.
Halifax, Glenn Davies came 49th in a PB 27:33.

Sat 14th May Huddersfield was cancelled, a bit less frantic:
Heaton , Michael Cottam came 6th in 17:47.










Sat 14th May, Dunstable Downs.
Alastair Wareham was 1st in 18:26.
Sat 21st May, Huddersfield. Joe Baker came 1st in 16:32. Leo Timmins was 5th in 18:20. Steve Carson was 6th in 18:22.Thomas Schoolar was 10th in 19:02.

Sat 28th May, Huddersfield. Michael Cottam was 2nd in a PB time of 17:15. Thomas Schoolar was 5th in a PB time of 18:27.

Marsden 10 Run Round

There's no run from the Stadium on Thursday 2nd June, so just a reminder that if you want some pre Jubilee exercise we will be doing a leisurely run over the Marsden Ten course.

We will be starting from outside the Marsden Conservative Club in Victoria Street HD7 6DF at 10am on Thursday 2nd June. Option of a coffee or beer afterwards. No need to book just turn up on the day

Lindley Away Run

Lindley Running club are welcoming us for an away run on Thursday 9th June

Meet in the YMCA car park at Salendine Nook at 6:30pm. There will be bronze, silver and gold groups. Everyone runs a similar route but with a staggered start. Bronze set off at 6.40 and the rest soon after.

Please can everyone book on as usual to give us an idea of numbers. They’ve got some lovely new trails, paths and roads planned for us!
Will be lovely to explore somewhere new.
Stadium Runners Milestones

Julie Johnson, who by coming to the give Running A Go Sessions, has reached 100 runs with the club.

Yorkshire Veterans' Athletics Association

After a Covid hiatus running virtual only events, the YVAA is fully back up and running in 2022.

Stadium Runners have affiliated to YVAA once again. Affiliation entitles all Club members aged 35+ to take part in all YVAA competitions, including their Grand Prix race series,  Championships, and any virtual events. 

The Registration process for the Multi-terrain Grand Prix series is about to open on the YVAA website. It is free to Register and you will only have to do this once.

Once you have registered you will also be able to enter the first event at Honley, hosted by Holmfirth Harriers, on 22nd May. Entry will cost £5 via the website using a credit card. This event has an entry limit of 250 and entry on the day will only be available if this limit is not reached by the pre-entry closing date.

Pre-entries will close one week before the event and announce how many places are still available on the website and on the Facebook group. If you decide to enter on the day then it will cost £7.

The next Rockhoppers Tuesday session will be the spring & summer runs which start and finish at a pub, going from different pub locations around Huddersfield. These sessions will start at 6:30pm.

The Rockhoppers Saturdays start and finish at a coffee shop for refreshments.
