Bronze, Silver & Gold Groups
Places on our runs are currently limited to 24 plus Run Leader(s).

In the meantime, we wanted to refresh everyone's memory on the structure and pace of our Bronze, Silver and Gold groups, just to make sure everyone is able to run with the most suitable group for them each week.

Bronze - The Bronze group typically covers around 5-6.5 miles at roughly a 10-12 minute mile pace. Our Bronze group currently has a Run Leader and Run Assist. This will allow us to offer a split, if required.

Silver - The Silver group usually covers between 6 and 8 miles. The pace of this group is around 8 - 10 minute miles dependant on the route, which is likely to involve more elevation. The Silvers currently have a Run Leader and Run Assist. This will allow us to offer a split, if required.

Gold - The Gold group tends to cover a minimum of 8 miles, often running up to 10 miles. The routes are slightly more challenging and will be covered at around 8 minute miles, although this is subject to the route plan and elevation. The Gold group has a Run Leader and does not have a Run Assist.

With all of our groups, we run back, meaning no one ever gets left behind. A regroup point will be given by the Run Leader and the quicker runners will always loop back for those at a steadier pace. So, if you feel ready to change your group and up your pace, you can be assured that you will be well looked after!

We know that there isn't one particular group that will fit each runner all the time, and encourage all runners to run in the group most appropriate to their current level of fitness and ability. If you are unsure which group is the right one for you, then please do drop us a message or chat to a Run Leader and we'll point you in the right direction!

Thank you

Ashleigh

Calling All Bronze Runners, We Miss You!

We’ve noticed numbers in the bronze group have been a little low since we returned. We discussed this at the committee meeting and we are going to plan a couple of ‘step up’ nights in the near future, more details to follow.

We will have a top team of run leaders all ready to make you feel welcome. This means that a number of split options will be possible should you want to pop along and just do a shortened steady run, help build your confidence back up.

Anything you think we can do to help our runners get back going again feel free to let us know. Email us, or speak to one of the run leaders.

Hope to see you all soon.
Stadium Running Milestones

Well done to the following runners who have reached significant run milestones in their time with the club:

David C. Miller 1,200!
Stephanie Sayles 400
Jonny Cartwright 300
Nick Greenwood and Chris Howarth 200

Who knew there had been that many Mondays and Thursdays in the life of a stadium runner, wow!! Keep up the hard work runners.
Hi Viz Runners

Can all runners on either group please remember to wear hi viz tops. If you need to purchase one, or any club kit, contact Sue Green email sue_j_green2000@yahoo.co.uk
Holme Valley 5 Miler

South Huddersfield Trail & Road Series are running the Holme Valley 5 Miler at 7:30pm on Fri 25th June.

From Holmbridge, it's a straight out (up) and back (down) race, with a BBQ & bar after. It is being billed as a Club v Club challenge, with teams being calculated as you cross the line.

As yet only 3 Stadium Runners have entered. Hopefully a few more of you will enter and we will get a Stadium team or two together.

Price £14, with live timing & results.
Heights Trail 10k

Over 20 Stadium Runners are already signed up for the Heights Trail 10k https://heightsultratrail.co.uk/ on Sat 10 July. Why not join in give it a go?

Also, there are some Stadium Runners signed up for the Ultra Trail 50k, but that is now full. There is still room on the Ultra Trail 50m event, if that is your thing.
Calderdale Way Relay
This year’s Calderdale Way Relay is finally happening on Sunday 26th September.

It is a truly spectacular event and the UK’s biggest off road relay race.

Thank you to everyone who have responded so quickly with your partner preference, this has made the planning a great deal easier than previous years when allocating the teams, so again a big thank you.

This year there are 98 teams involved and Stadium have got 3 to fill -
  • 1 x Men’s team – TEAM ALLOCATED
  • 1 x Ladies team – 2 LADIES SHORT AT THE MOMENT
  • 1 x Mixed team – TEAM ALLOCATED
This is a fell race split into 6 legs covering the length of the Calderdale Way, ranging from 4.8 miles to 10.5 miles. It’s self-navigating and full FRA kit must be carried. We need 12 runners for each team, along with a list of reserves. So far, we have 3 male reserves, however unfortunately as yet no female reserves.
  • Leg 1: 10.55 miles – 8am start
  • Leg 2: 8.46 miles
  • Leg 3: 4.8 miles
  • Leg 4: 9.36 miles
  • Leg 5: 7.55 miles
  • Leg 6: 10.5 miles – The glory leg where all your Stadium buddies will be there with a pint waiting for you at the finish line!
So, as it stands, we are two ladies short for the Ladies team. Leg one is currently the leg we need to fill. If we do not get two ladies, it means a lot of jiggling around and most certainly pairing runners with someone who are perhaps not matched in pace and ability.

So ladies, we need your support please!!!

We have detailed below the teams allocated so far and we would again ask if you wish to take part, to come forward asap.

All runners must run in pairs and MUST cross the finish line timing mats together.

Anyone not wishing to run, but who would like to help out with either supporting or perhaps helping our runners get to the start of their leg (this is a point-to-point race) then please let us know. So far, Sue Green has offered her services to help runners on the day, thanks so much Sue.

You MUST be a fully paid-up club member by 31st August 2021. For further details about the event, visit Halifax Harriers website.

Please see below the team allocation so far –
Any questions, feel free to speak to Jonny or Nicki Cartwright. Tel: 07931 629791.

If you are interested in taking part, please email jonny26.2@aol.co.uk .

Thank you always for your support,

Jonny & Nicki
West Yorkshire Winter League 2021-2022
Stadium Runners will be hosting the West Yorkshire Winter League at Storthes Hall on Sunday 13th of February, the race will start at 10am.

We will be looking for volunteers to help with car parking and marshalling duties nearer the time, the more the merrier.

Tom
Simon's Strength and Conditioning Sessions

On Monday 7th and 21st June, I will be putting on a couple of group indoor runner specific Strength and Conditioning sessions at HD1 Fitness Clinic on Old Leeds Rd, opposite the old Huddersfield Sports Centre site at 6.30pm.

I know you love running and would like to improve and make it feel easier. I hope you have goals, big or small, a thing that gets you out the door as a runner, and that you want to give yourself the best chance of succeeding, and any additional resources or inspiration to help you achieve them would be welcome.

My goal with S & C for Runners, as well as the Runners Development Sessions we currently provide, is to help you elevate your performances and show you strategic ways to work smarter and more productively so that you can take your running to the next level. That next level may be a race performance, an improved time or a new distance achieved, or just to be able to be more consistent and pain free leading to more enjoyable runs with the club.

An increased training knowledge, and a better understanding of the decisions around your training is a competitive advantage. You become more informed to make better decisions, leading to more effective running, fewer injuries, and faster times.

I want to train you to be the best athlete possible; an athlete that specialises in running. Training simply as a runner, means you miss out on the strength, speed, skill, and efficiency developments that a more varied approach can bring back in gains with your running.

An athlete has more knowledge of how to improve. They have more tools in their bag to call upon, less likely to experience repetitive training injuries, and if or when injury occurs, they then have a better skill set and understanding of what is required to recover quicker. They are already familiar with S & C and so don’t have to ‘waste’ recovery time learning firstly how to move and rehab properly as they are already more familiar with many aspects of movement.

As the saying goes: The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.

The cost will be £5 per session and will last 60 minutes. For more information, or to express an interest in attending any of these sessions, please get in touch. These sessions are suitable for all, and coaching is not simply for ‘the better runners’!

Thanks

Return of parkrun
Following the publication of the Government’s roadmap for exiting lockdown, parkrun are excited to share their plans to restart both junior and 5k parkrun events across England.

Junior parkrun events across England were able to return from Sunday 11 April 2021 for children aged 4-10 only. Huddersfield, Tolson & Beaumont Park Junior parkruns all resumed on Sun 25th Apr.

5k parkrun events across England will hopefully return on the revised date of Saturday 26th June 2021. Huddersfield & Brighouse parkruns have got the go ahead, but the Storthes Hall multiple landowners have not yet given permission. Check out the full list of parkruns that have got approval here.

Membership Renewal

Firstly, thank you to the 60+ members that have already renewed with us.

If you haven't yet renewed, then the membership fee is £30 for the Athletic year April 2021- March 2022.

£15 of this fee will be paid to UKA for each person’s individual affiliation payment. The remaining money will go towards enabling the club to develop running sessions and events that we hope will become possible to arrange, as we move forward out of the Covid restrictions.

All group running sessions, for registered club members, will currently remain free, but reviewed, when we discuss with KAL, our partnership agreement.

If you have any questions about membership, then please contact Alison Cottam membership@stadiumrunners.co.uk .

Run Leaders Required

Stadium Runners is always very grateful to all our run leaders, new and not so new. Stadium Runners simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of run leaders who regularly give up their time to ensure all the groups stay safe and have a fun and challenging experience. But particularly over the last few months, our run leaders have been fantastic and we owe it to them that the Club has been able to offer safe and enjoyable sessions again.

We are always looking for new run leaders and can offer training, equipment and lots of support. The chance to say “not far now” and “that’s all the hills done” and other well known motivational (but not always true) phrases.

This course is now available as a virtual course. England Athletics have announced a number of dates for a new online Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) course, and they plan to release more dates in the future.

If you would like to know more about how to join this amazing team, email Bridget at libramac@me.com or ring me on 07540 434573
