Guy Fawkes 10 Mile, Sun 3rd Nov

(photos Adam Goodall & Simon Gudgeon)

With just about perfect running conditions, 28 of us took on the infamous Birstwith Brute, Swincliffe Swine and For Fawkes Sake hills. Our top 3 females & males were:

1st Ashleigh Greenwood (1:16:21)
2nd Michaela Goodall (1:16:59)
3rd Kathy Armitage (1:23:24)

1st Simon Courtney (4th overall) (59:46)
2nd Leo Timmins (1:02:04)
3rd Joe Baker (1:05:25)

Category prizes for Michaela, Joe, Leo, Mark and Bridget.

Well done team!! Big thanks to Fiona for organising the coach on behalf of the club. Great to see Simon and James Gudgeon, Adam and Alison supporting on course.

West Yorkshire Winter League Cross Country 2019/20
Race 1 Baildon.

It was a cold morning, but it stayed dry. Heavy rain the previous week ensured that mud was in abundance. It was an improved start from last year, starting in a field, which allowed the runners to spread out a bit more before the first climb up the hill on a narrow path. 17 Stadium Runners turned out on the day.

Our top 3 males were
Simon Courtney 9th
Tom Jagger 14th
Leo Timmins 26th

Our top 3 Females were
Ashleigh Greenwood 120th
Michaela Goodall 190th
Kim Senior 332nd

Stadium came 7th overall. Females were 9th, Males 7th, Vets 4th & Super Vets 9th.

Awesome work everyone!

Race 2 Dewsbury @ Hopton Mills, Mirfield

The next WYWL race is at 10am on Sun 1st Dec and is hosted by Dewsbury, and it is the usual course based at Hopton Mills Cricket Club.

Here's the route (nervous runners should look away now) link.

Car sharing is highly recommended. There is limited parking in the car park at the start/finish on Hagg Lane. For those of you going to the Flowerpot after the race we suggest they park on Station Road. You can then walk 5 minutes to the start. There will be signs and marshalls directing you to the start area, and parking generally.

If you are going to the Flowerpot please make sure you remove your (very, very, very) muddy shoes first.

Please note that there will be a cut off time of 35 minutes to reach the 2 mile marker. Anyone who does not get to the marker within that time will be re-directed to the start.

We hope you "enjoy" the race on Sunday!

If you don’t yet have your race number please see Ashleigh in plenty of time before the race start to collect it. Those of you that do have one, please don’t forget it!! You need to wear the same race number at all WYWL races. And don’t forget your club vest ????

Finally, it is the last WYWL race before Christmas, so fancy dress is encouraged! Santa hats are a minimum requirement.

Race 5 Stadium @ Storthes Hall

You may have already seen, but we have the pleasure of hosting a WYWL race this season! Our race will be at Storthes Hall on Sunday 9th of Feb 2020 and we have an awesome route in mind! Ashleigh, Jonny and Rob will let you know more details soon.

We still need more volunteers to make our event a huge success! ???? Add your name to the list on the notice board if you can help. There will be walk rounds prior to the event. Any questions, then speak to Nicki or Jonny.

If you are participating in WYWL, and on Facebook, then you should consider joining the WYWL Facebook group to keep up with the latest information:

Stadium Vest Colours

Firstly, sorry for the delay in getting this information to you.
A few months ago we asked you to help us make a decision about the colour of our race vest. We had a really high number of people take the time to vote, thank you.
The results of that vote were really close, as follows:
Red 41
White 40
No preference 9
We discussed these results at the committee meeting and made a decision that we didn’t feel it was a strong enough indication to make such a big change. We have therefore decided that the race vest will remain white.
However, a number of people left helpful suggestions and comments about the design and quality of the vest and we will do our best to consider these in future.
Thanks for all the interest
Sowerby Snails @ Stadium

Thank you so much to all those who led a group for our Stadium and Snails social from Lockwood Park, it was very much appreciated.

And thanks everyone who came, loved the run and the food at the Shoulder of Mutton was top notch!

We’ve been invited on a return visit to the Snails sometime in April after the clocks change...for a run and a BBQ!

London Marathon Ballot

Congratulations if you are one of the lucky few who has been successful in the public ballot. Best of luck with your training!
Those who missed out may have a second chance. We will hopefully be allocated ONE club place but this will not be confirmed until November. If a place is confirmed, the ballot will be drawn following our Christmas Run on Monday 23rd December.
Taking into account how popular the event has become and how hard it is to get a place, please could we ask that going forward, the winning member refrains from entering in the future club ballots. This is as a courtesy, to give fellow members who haven’t won previously a better chance to run the iconic event.
Anyone wishing to be included in the ballot should forward their official rejection email to

Social Events

Jonny & Nicki have been very busy organising things for us to do when not running:

Sat 14th December — Christmas drinks in Huddersfield. Informal meet up involving fun, frolics (& fruit juice!)

Glitz & Glamour alert!
Sat 18th April 2020 — Awards Night 2020 will be held at Fixby Hall Golf Club. It is going to be a night of glitz & glamour - no lycra allowed. Dig out your best frock & dancing shoes (not you Jonny!) and prepare to wow your fellow club mates. Tickets are £30 and this includes a 3 course meal, awards and a DJ until late. Tickets available from Nicki or Jonny Cartwright on a club night or email
Stadium Runners Committee Meeting

Any club members are welcome to attend Committee Meetings. The next meeting is Monday 16th Dec at 8:15pm. We try to keep meetings short, effective and humorous!
