[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - August 2020

Hi

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
Return to Training News

Training returned on Monday 27th July but it will be a little different for the time being. Please read the following information carefully.

Training Runs:

Our Bronze, Silver and Gold Groups will resume on a Monday and Thursday night at 6:30pm. Initially, the sessions will be open to affiliated Stadium Runners only (those that have renewed their membership with our Membership Secretary Alison Cottam).

Each group will have a maximum of 12 participants (1 Run Leader and 11 members). We are following guidance from our National Governing Body UK Athletics who state that groups of up to 12 people can run together in a ‘Covid secure’ environment. We have completed a risk assessment and assigned a Lead (Rob Buchanan) who is happy to answer any Covid-related queries. Note: there will be no Run Assist for now, but this will be kept under review.

For the period up to the end of September Stadium Runners will operate independently from KAL for ease of Covid risk management for both parties. We will meet in the top car park at the Stadium. Please be aware that you will not have access to KAL facilities (toilets/changing rooms), so make sure you arrive at training ready to run.

We ask that you conform to current social distance and hygiene guidance during training and please do not attend if you or anyone in your household is displaying Covid symptoms.

Coaching Sessions:

From August Simon has kindly offered to host coaching sessions on a Monday night. These will be structured sessions and there will be a small charge that you need to pay when you book. Further information regarding the coaching sessions will follow in the coming weeks - watch this space!

How to Book:

For the months of July - September the Bronze, Silver and Gold Groups will be free of charge to affiliated Stadium Runners. It will not matter whether you are a KAL member or not.

We will be using the ‘RunTogether’ booking platform. This is a system hosted by UKA. You will need to register an account with them in order to book onto sessions. You can do this by clicking on the following link:

https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/Account/SignUp

We have made our sessions ‘private’ so that only Stadium Runners can book onto them. If you search the website you will not be able to find the Club and/or sessions. You will need to book on using the following links (we recommend that you bookmark them to your computer/phone browser). We ask that the links are not shared with non-members:

Bronze Group:

Silver Group:

Gold Group:

We appreciate that there is only limited availability and ask that you be considerate to other members. Please only book onto one training night per week during these early stages. Some of you may miss out and we are sorry.

Please attend if you are booked on or cancel with plenty of notice (you can do this via ‘my booked runs’ on the RunTogether website).

We will regularly review the number of groups and participants, taking into account Run Leader availability and the guidance provided by UKA and the Government.

It is great to see that various friendship bubble runs have been organised throughout lockdown and we hope this continues whilst training night spaces are limited. Please note that any friendship bubble runs are not official Stadium Runners runs and participants run at their own risk. We do encourage these runs to follow the guidance provided by UKA:

https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/guidance-update-for-restricted-return-to-activity-for-coaches-leaders-athletes-runners-and-facilities-step-3/

We hope the above is clear, but do do let us know if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you all very soon!

Amy, on behalf of Stadium Runners.

p.s. a massive thank you to Ashleigh for coordinating the Run Leader rota and setting up our RunTogether booking system, to Rob for agreeing to be the Covid Lead and to Alison for processing all the memberships (I’m sure she will be receiving a few more renewals over the coming weeks!!).

Update

Covid-19 Local Restrictions:

England Athletics put a statement out over the weekend. Their current guidance for training remains unchanged and applies to all parts of England, including those in locally restricted areas (us). Therefore, our sessions will continue as planned. This will be reviewed if further restrictions are announced.

Bronze Assist:

Following feedback, we are going to ask for some help from run leaders so that we can add an assist to the Bronze Group sessions.

Weekly Sessions:

We asked you to only book onto one training night per week so everyone gets a chance to run with the Club. However, if there are still spaces available on the day of your non booked session, you can book on and attend.

Membership Update

Thank you to the members that have renewed their membership with the club. Most of you will have now received confirmation from UKA of your registration, for others who have paid recently the payments have been sent to UKA and you should have notification of registration within the next week.

For those Run Leaders and runners, who are wanting to run with the club, you will need to be a registered UKA member. Please contact me on the email address below if you need any help or information.

Stadium Coronahighness Challenge

Well done to each of the contenders who found the time, effort, inclination and elevation to have a go at last months climbing/speed challenge. As you can see from the table here our champion on this occasion was Steven Taylor, who managed to utilise a well timed trip to the lakes for his effort. Narrowly nudged into 2nd this time was Joe Baker with his traditional late entry effort, climbing up Stoodley Pike, just a few feet short of the win. Darren Earnshaw also used a well planned holiday to his advantage with another Lake District effort to take 3rd place. Much to the annoyance of Chairman Robert Buchanan who should have used up all of his allotted time to gain a few extra feet!

Martin Wright seems to love a hill challenge and special notices to Dan Lock and Mark Davies for their repeated efforts and really throwing themselves into the challenge. Charlotte Pogson did a great run to easily claim the female award....but was more than strong enough to contend with the other mountain goats on this list. And I had a couple of goes....Moving on.

Thanks to all, and well done again, some little souvenirs will circulate to those who took part once we get mingling a little more. Enjoy your return to club nights everyone, remember that motivation can come and go, but waiting for normality and races to return may leave you missing out on so much more from your running. This maybe our normality for a while to come yet, so don't hesitate and wait for the past to return, get out there and do what you can now.
