[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - October 2020

Hi

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
Training Nights

Our Bronze, Silver and Gold Groups have resumed on a Monday and Thursday night at 6:30pm. The sessions are currently open to affiliated Stadium Runners only (those that have renewed their membership with our Membership Secretary Alison Cottam).

Each group will have a maximum of 12 participants (1 Run Leader and 11 members). We are following guidance from our National Governing Body UK Athletics who state that in England, groups of up to 12 people can run together in a ‘Covid secure’ environment. We have completed a risk assessment and assigned a Lead (Rob Buchanan) who is happy to answer any Covid-related queries.

For the period up to the end of December Stadium Runners will operate independently from KAL for Covid risk management purposes. We will meet in the top car park at the Stadium. Please be aware that you will not have access to KAL facilities (toilets/changing rooms), so make sure you arrive at training ready to run.

We ask that you conform to current social distance and hygiene guidance during training and please do not attend if you or anyone in your household is displaying Covid symptoms.

How to Book:

For the months of October - December the Bronze, Silver and Gold Groups will be free of charge to affiliated Stadium Runners. It will not matter whether you are a KAL member or not.

We are using the ‘RunTogether’ booking platform. You will need to register an account with them in order to book onto sessions. You can do this by clicking on the following link:

https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/Account/SignUp

We have made our sessions ‘private’ so that only Stadium Runners can book onto them. If you search the website you will not be able to find the Club and/or sessions. You will need to book on using the following links (we recommend that you bookmark them to your computer/phone browser).

Stadium RunTogether Bronze Runs
Stadium RunTogether Silver Runs
Stadium RunTogether Gold Runs

Whilst training numbers are restricted, we ask that you only book onto one training night per week. If there are still spaces available on the day of your non booked session, you can book on and attend.

Please attend if you are booked on or cancel with plenty of notice (you can do this via ‘my booked runs’ on the RunTogether website).

Stadium Runners Development Sessions:

Stadium Runners Development Sessions take place on alternate Mondays. The sessions are £3 each to be paid on booking. This money goes directly into the Club.

Simon Courtney explains:

‘Aiming to improve your running ability no matter what your current level is, the Stadium Runners Development Sessions will help you to run more efficiently therefore making running easier, make you more resilient to niggles and injuries by improving the way you move, and challenge you occasionally to be comfortable with being uncomfortable which we know is important in order to see improvements in race performances or during other challenging runs. The content of the sessions will include running form work and technique drills, mini circuits developing strength, mobility and co-ordination, with some hard work included in the form of our usual track or loops out on the roads.’

As with all other sessions, they are only available through a direct link on RunTogether:

Stadium RunTogether Development Sessions

Finally:

It is great to see that various friendship bubble runs have been organised throughout lockdown and we hope this continues whilst training night spaces are limited. Please note that any friendship bubble runs are not official Stadium Runners runs and participants run at their own risk. We do encourage these runs to follow the guidance provided by UKA:

UKA Guidance

We hope the above is clear, but do do let us know if you have any questions.

Amy, on behalf of Stadium Runners.

Darker Nights and Visibility
As the darker nights are starting to approach, it is useful to think about visibility. That means you being able to see where you are going, but also other road users being able to see you.

We ask runners to wear bright/reflective/high-visibility clothing. We try to encourage runners to wear a torch too. That could be a head, chest or a small hand torch. There are lots of options on the market - you could take advantage of the Club’s SportsShoes discount.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Cancelling A Booked Run On RunTogether

As a few people will have realised over the last few months, the RunTogether platform allows you to book onto a run multiple times. Also, if circumstances change you may wish to cancel a previously booked run. It is good to cancel a booked run that you can no longer attend, as places are limited, and you could be stopping someone else running.

There are two ways to cancel.

A. Log into your account: https://runtogether.co.uk - click on the person icon (3rd from the right in the red header) - click ‘my booked runs’:
Find the booking you want to cancel and click the blue ‘cancel’ button:
Or

B. Download the ‘RunTogether Runner’ app - sign in - click ‘my schedule’:
Click on the run - click ‘cancel session’.
The latter is probably the easiest, just remember you can’t use the app to ‘book’ Stadium Runners sessions as they are private.

Amy & Mark
Rockhopper Running
A brand new Saturday morning running group is starting up - Rockhopper Running.

This is being organised by Martin Wright, but it is separate from Stadium.

This will be a Saturday morning run between 10.00 & 11.00. The runs will go from different locations around Huddersfield, taking in the best of God’s country.

The runs will be mainly off road as we have the daylight, distance will be 5-6 miles.

This will be a coached run and will start & finish at a coffee shop or refreshments location if possible, so we can have a bit of socially distanced social time.

This run will provide an extra run each week with the opportunity for off road running through the winter months.

Martin is in the process of setting this up on the Run Together app, but not quite there yet, So please message him on email, text, Facebook or WhatsApp to book a place for this weekends run.

It will be on a first come first served basis, with a maximum of 11 people. There is a small fee of £2.50 per run.

This Saturday morning’s inaugural run will start / finish outside Coffee Boy at Aspley. If you can be there at 9.50 that will allow us to get off on time.

Looking forward to seeing all you Athletes on Saturday.
