[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - March 2021

Hi

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you and I will try and help to resolve the problem.
Return to Stadium Runners
Following the government roadmap announcement and guidance from our national governing body England Athletics, we are really pleased to hear that our training nights can recommence from Monday 29th March.

Planning is underway behind the scenes with a provisional aim to restart training on this date.

So, if you’re interested in running with the Club this year, please keep an eye on our Facebook page, and look out for email updates. Further news will follow shortly.

London Marathon Ballot
The public London Marathon ballot results were announced last month. Congratulations if you have been successful! If you missed out, don’t delete that rejection email just yet...

We will hopefully be allocated ONE club place, but this may not be confirmed by UKA until March.

Once confirmed, we will have a club ballot to determine the recipient of the place. If you are lucky enough to have won a club place in the past, we ask that you don’t enter again.

To be included in the ballot, you must provide evidence of your 2021 rejection email, so keep your email safe and await further news/instruction.

Stainland Lions Bluebell Trail
We unfortunately have to make an unwanted announcement of our own...

BLUEBELL 2021 CANCELLED

Under normal circumstances we would be well underway with our planning and preparation for the Bluebell race by now. However the uncertainty about when and what restrictions will be lifted have meant we are unable to get confirmation that the permissions we need to host the race will be issued in time and without these the race cannot go ahead.

The Bluebell race is special to Stainland Lions and if we are going to do it we are going to do it properly, which means we need to put in the hard work beforehand, these things need time and effort to organise. The committee have therefore taken the difficult decision to postpone the race once again.

So please put Sunday 8th May 2022 into your diaries for the rearranged race.

All existing entries will automatically be rolled over to next year, transfers / refunds (less BookitZone fees) will be available if this date is not convenient. We will update our website and will contact all entrants through Bookitzone. Please bare with us whilst this is sorted.

Sorry about this, it isn't what we want but we like we say, if we are going to do it, then we are doing it properly, cow bells, jelly babies, Trooper Lane, rapid river crossings, and all other hazardous bits and bobs that we love/ hate.

Return of parkrun

  • Junior parkrun events across England will be able to return from Sunday 11 April 2021
  • All 5k parkrun events across England will return on Saturday 5 June 2021

LINDLEY 10K POSTPONED TO OCTOBER

The annual Lindley 10k race and Lindley Junior Run have been rescheduled for the autumn.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the events, which were due to take place this year on Sunday 27th June, have been postponed and will now take place on Sunday 17th October.

Lindley 10k is a 10 kilometre circular race for competitors who are aged over 15, which starts and finishes on Lidget Street, in the heart of Lindley, while the Lindley Junior Run is a 2 kilometre race.

The events form part of the wider annual weekend of community events, including Lindley Street Party and Lindley Festival.

However, in light of the Government’s recent lockdown roadmap announcement, the organisers, Lindley Community Group, took the decision to cancel the award-winning weekend of community events, although the Lindley 10k and Lindley Junior Run will be rescheduled for later in the year.

Last year, the Lindley 10k was also rescheduled to take place in October, but Lindley Community Group cancelled it as a safety precaution, following guidance from UK Athletics and the publication of guidelines relating to holding sport events.

However, the organisers are confident that the Lindley 10k race will take place this year, due to the success of the vaccination roll-out and the unveiling of a route out of lockdown.

All entries from last year’s Lindley 10k will be automatically rolled-over to the event this year. Entry will be open until Friday 1st October.
Annual General Meeting and Committee Vacancies
Hi Stadium Runners

The date for this year's AGM is Wednesday 21st April at 7.30pm via Zoom, further details to follow. We were not able to hold an AGM last year, therefore this meeting will mark two years since we last carried one out. The meeting will offer members the opportunity to confirm committee members, receive reports from committee members and there will also be a question and answer session. You can send me your questions in advance or save it for the evening if you prefer. The meetings usually last an hour or so, it would be great to see as many of you online as possible.

We still have two roles on the committee that remain vacant, and we would really appreciate your consideration on this matter.

We are looking for a Social Media Officer. We communicate quite a lot of content through social media, and this has become a really important method of getting messages out to members and potential members. You would need to be able to dedicate a little bit of time throughout the week to ensure that the most up to date messages were available to everyone. Ideally, you'd attend committee meetings which take place every 4-6 weeks. The role can be made manageable depending on your flexibility and availability so don't worry about trying to replicate what currently happens.

We also need a Social Secretary. This role involves two main tasks, organising the annual awards ceremony and organising social events throughout the year. The awards ceremony takes place sometime after the end of the season at the end of March. You can ask other committee members to help out with tasks to spread the work and people have shared this role in the past, which seems to work well. Again, attendance at the committee meetings is helpful.

The club relies totally on the good will of members to get involved to help run it, we simply would not exist without people stepping up and offering a little bit of their time. If anyone wants to chat about either of the roles or you have a question about the AGM then please get in touch.

We are all very much looking forward to getting back running together again soon.

Run Leaders Required

Stadium Runners is always very grateful to all our run leaders, new and not so new. Stadium Runners simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of run leaders who regularly give up their time to ensure all the groups stay safe and have a fun and challenging experience. But particularly over the last few months, our run leaders have been fantastic and we owe it to them that the Club has been able to offer safe and enjoyable sessions again.

We are always looking for new run leaders and can offer training, equipment and lots of support. The chance to say “not far now” and “that’s all the hills done” and other well known motivational (but not always true) phrases.

This course is now available as a virtual course. England Athletics have announced a number of dates for a new online Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) course, and they plan to release more dates in the future.

If you would like to know more about how to join this amazing team, email Bridget at  libramac@me.com or ring me on 07540 434573
