[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - March 2019

Hi

Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you.
Farewell Saul

Most of you will know by now that Saul will leave his role as run coordinator with Stadium Runners at the end of March. To try to sum up what Saul has done for the club in few words is pretty impossible but it is safe to say he has been pivotal in the creation and development of Stadium Runners over the last 15 years. We are very grateful for the love and support he has shown the club and the many members over the years and he will be greatly missed.

Saul, we hope that you keep in touch and we would love to see you back running with us if you get the chance in future and of course, we wish you the very best in your new ventures with GoodGym.

The committee have been working alongside KAL to ensure the continued smooth running of the Monday and Thursday evening sessions and a few changes have already taken place. You might have noticed a few new faces around but nothing much should change as far as training runs are concerned. Simon will continue to offer coaching sessions on a Monday, such as NPNG.

Jenn and Natalie will be around on a Monday and Thursday, they both work for KAL in different capacities but also have a keen interest in running, Stadium Runners and helping us develop. We have a long-standing relationship with KAL which we are proud of and works in a mutually beneficial way. We will keep you informed of any other developments that occur.
West Yorkshire Winter League Cross Country

WYWL Race 5 - Crossgates

Sadly I missed out on Crossgates but, from what I hear, muddy fun was had by all.

The top Stadium Runners were

Women
1. Ashleigh Greenwood 13th female.
2. Michaela Goodall 22nd female
3. Caroline Smith 32nd female

Men
1. Simon Courtney 5th
2. Leo Timmins 11th
3. Michael Cottam 27th

On the day, Stadium came Overall 7th, Males 7th , Females 5th, Vets 2nd & Super Vets 7th.

Full results available on the WYWL blog site.

A super effort by all our runners.

WYWL Standings after 5 races

Stadium are Overall 8th, Men 6th, Women 7th, Vets 2nd, Super Vets 5th.

WYWL Race 6 - Stainland, 10am Sun 3rd Mar 2019

The Stainland course has proved to be a tough little number in previous years.  We could do with a good Stadium turnout for a last push at the final table positions for the season.

Race Venue: Heath RUFC, North Dean, Stainland Road, Greetland, Halifax HX4 8LS.

Car Parking: Parking is available at the Rugby Club and surrounding side streets, marshals will be on hand to direct you to a suitable place. To avoid congestion please car share where possible and do not park on the main road outside the rugby club.

Facilities: There are toilets and changing facilities at Heath. Teas and coffees will be available before the race and hot food, cakes and drinks available afterwards. Please bring a change of shoes as no muddy shoes are allowed in the club house.

Course: The course is 5.7 miles long and is mainly on woodland paths and tracks. There are roots, rocks, fallen branches, steep muddy slopes, rivers and streams to cross and the infamous “Log Flume” as well as some short tarmac sections; so we have something for everyone. Fell or Trail shoes are essential – please do not attempt to run with roadies. Please listen to and take notice of marshals’ instructions – they are there to ensure your safety. Anyone wearing headphones will be removed from the race for this reason.

Other Race Results

Dewsbury 10K

20 Stadium runners turned out in Dewsbury early on a freezing January morning. The temperature on the building on next to the start line said -4C as we started, but this didn't stop Joe Baker from running in just his vest! It is a flat, out & back course - great for PBs, but perhaps lacking in scenic beauty.

The top Stadium Runners were:

Men
1. Simon Courtney 32nd
2. Leo Timmins 49th
3. Tom Jagger 74th

Women
1. Anthea Bitcon 477th
2. Alexa Schoolar 741st
3. Kim Senior 791st

Full results are here.

Liversedge Half
A tough hilly course, but a mild morning.

The top Stadium Runners were:

Men
1. Simon Courtney 4th
2. Jamie Brannan 6th
3. Darren Earnshaw 59th

Women
1. Bridget Hughes 25th female
2. Kathy Armitage 29h female
3. Sam Eastwood 72nd female

Also, Bridget Hughes won the F60 prize, and yours truly won the 2nd M60 prize.

Full results are here.

Huddersfield 10K

Local hilly favourite. Often clashes with WYWL, but not this year. It was Jonny & Nicki Cartwright's first outing back in Stadium colours, but sadly they had registered as Lions.

The top Stadium Runners were:

Men
1. Tom Jagger 9th
2. Matt Carter 25th
3. Mark Davies 48th

Women
1. Caroline Smith 18th female
2. Jess Earnshaw 80th female
3. Barbara Johnston-Read 186th female

Tom Jagger won the M40 prize, Caroline Smith won the F50 prize, yours truly won the M60 prize and Stadium won the 2nd Male Team prize.

Full results are here.

Awesome work by everyone.
Annual General Meeting Monday 15th April 8.30pm

Hi members

Our AGM is coming up soon and I wanted to give you all some notice to get the date in your diaries! There will be some light refreshments available to put you on after the run and the meeting should be wrapped up by around 9.30.

The AGM is an opportunity to see what club secretaries have been up to over the last year and also hear any plans for the upcoming year. We will also vote in club secretaries for the upcoming year.

If you are a member and have an interest in any of the current roles then they are all up for renewal, as they are every year. I need to know of your formal interest in advance of the meeting if you intend to stand for any of the current positions. If you could contact me by email by 31st March then I can make any necessary plans for the AGM.

Most of you will know that Amy Oatway is stepping down, somebody has shown an interest in this role but we are also looking for someone to step in as an event organiser. This role would involve helping to organise specific running activities throughout the year, as you see fit, such as banana relay, train to train, pumpkin run, these are just examples of what we have done previously. Working alongside KAL and the committee you would be free to decide what types of things we do in future.

There will also be some time at the AGM for a question and answer session, so feel free to pop along if you simply just want to ask one of the committee about something that you feel would be useful for other people to hear.

If you have any questions about anything then please let me know.
