[Stadium Runners] Newsletter - January 2019

Hi

Happy New Year! Welcome to the Stadium Runners Newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about what has happened and what will be happening in the wonderful world of Stadium Runners. Please contact me if it is still being marked as spam for you.

Training nights resume on Thu 3rd January down at the Stadium.
West Yorkshire Winter League Cross Country
WYWL Race 2 - Queensbury RC @ Ogden

The Weather Gods must have read my last newsletter, as the weather was decidely grey on this morning. That said, there was a bit of a gap in the rain for much of the race. It was an absolutely cracking hilly, muddy course. There were 468 finishers.

The top Stadium Runners were:

Men
1. Jamie Brannan 2nd !!
2. Leo Timmins 11th
3. Michael Cottam 23rd

Women
1. Ashleigh Greenwood 7th female
2. Michaela Goodall 15th female
3. Emily Ledder 22nd female

Very well done to our top 6 and to all the other Stadium Runners who took part.

On the day, Stadium came Overall 5th, Males 7th , Females 4th, Vets 6th & Super Vets 5th.

WYWL Race 3 - Pudsey Pacers @ Tong

The venue for the WYWL Race 3 at 10am on Sunday 6th January is Parkwood Outdoors Centre (4X4), Tong, Bradford, BD4 0RR. Please do not try and recce as it is private land and would jeopardise any future events.

It is a 2 lap 5.3 mile undulating trail and XC route with 850 ft of climb, fell shoes recommended, and a wide start area so no excuse for a slow start.

Parking on site, please car share (no parking in village).

Social - Driglington Cricket Club, 1 mile away
41, Station Rd, BD11 1JU (will be signed with arrows).
Selling Pie & Peas hot dogs hot drinks and bar.
Other Races
Joe & Ashleigh couldn't think of anything better to do on Dec 31st, so they both ran the Liverbird Marathon and completed it in 3 hours 45. Possibly even more impressively, they both turned out for parkrun on New Year's Day, with Joe doing a double!

4 Stadium Runners did the annual NYD parkrun double, Dewsbury & Huddersfield including the 8m run in between - Jamie, Steve, Tom & Mark. Why not give it a go next year?

Awesome work.
Committee Roles - Vacancies!

Are you interested in supporting your running club? Giving a bit of time back? We need you!

There are lots of things that go on behind the scenes to ensure that the club runs smoothly and continues to offer a good experience to our members. There are likely to be a few roles at the next AGM that we will hope to fill, have a look below and see if anything would be of interest to you.

Each role will involve a small amount of work in your own time, but you can tailor that to suit you. There is the freedom to do something new or different to how it has been done in the past, in fact that is always encouraged! Attendance at committee meetings would be preferred, they are usually every 4-6 weeks. Training and endless support is available to anyone taking up any of the roles.

Events Coordinator – NEW!

This role involves organising, promoting and ensuring the delivery of our well-established running event programme. Throughout the year, but usually over the summer, Saul has organised several events to keep us all interested on training nights. Now that Saul is leaving us, we need someone to step in and take over.

Social Media Officer – NEW!

This is basically ensuring that our Facebook page and other social media accounts are kept up-to-date, to keep our members and followers informed about what is going on in the club.

Social Secretary

This role involves organising the Annual Awards Night and other social events throughout the year. Amy has done a fantastic job for a few years now but intends to step down after this year.

If you are interested in any of the above roles and want to have a chat or ask questions about anything, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to discuss.

An Announcement From Saul

I need to make you all aware that following a lengthy period of deliberation I have concluded that the time has come to for me to move on from my role with Stadium Runners. The is decision is due to a combination of factors and not down to a single reason, but I believe that this is the right time to step down after 15 thoroughly enjoyable years of Stadium Running.

I am of course working with KAL and our Chair to ensure that the transition and the appointment of a successor is as smooth as possible and that any impact on the Monday and Thursday run sessions is minimal.

I envisage that my final run with the club will be in February 2019, but until that time I will be continuing with my duties as normal.

Contributions are really appreciated: If you run with Stadium Runners and have an experience or observation you want to write about, please send it in using the contact form. Your entry should have something to do with running! It could be a race report, stuff about training or nutrition, a book review etc.
