Yorkshire Vets Race 1

Saturday 23rd March at 11am saw the first race in the Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix calendar.  Hosted by the South Leeds Lakers at the  South Leeds Stadium in Middleton, it was a sunny, yet chilly morning.  238 runners set off round the 5.1 mile trail course, luckily given the inclement weather of late the course was fairly dry resulting in clean trail shoes ready for the next race. Back at race HQ, free tea and cake was available to all.  Three Stadium Runners were out today, first back for Stadium was Ian Sutcliffe, then Mick Lunn and Helen Clegg.

The next event is local to us at Honley, hosted by Holmfirth Harriers on Sunday 14th April, it would be good to see a few more Stadium out.

Remember the Yorkshire Vets League is those of us who are over 35 years old, you have to register at Yorkshire Vets League before you can race and it cost £5.00 for each race, paid on the day.

Calderdale Way Relay

A reminder to all those in the Calderdale Way Relay teams to make sure you have the necessary kit for the race.  Also details of the official Recce's.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT (to be carried by all runners)
All runners MUST carry all of the following equipment throughout the race:
  • WATERPROOF whole body cover (i.e. covering the torso from head to ankles)
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Map of the race route and surrounding area
  • Compass suitable for navigating the course (GPS type equipment is not acceptable)
  • Whistle
All runners must present their kit at race registration for inspection. No kit, No run.
Failure to run with the required kit will result in the disqualification of the whole team.

Official CWR Recces

Information about the official recces taking place on the 11th May 2019 can be found on the Halifax Harriers Website, if you've not run your leg before its well worth attending, suitable for all levels.
If you have any questions or queries about the race, please contact Ian Sutcliffe or Helen Clegg at rativision@ntlworld.com or on a club night.
Other Race Results

Spen 20 Sun 10th March

The Spen 20 is tough enough - 20 hilly miles that loop back on themselves, with odd Liversedge Half flashbacks thrown in - but the weather this year put the tin lid on it. Cold, wind, rain, sleet, hail, snow & sun all combined to make it a real challenge. Even so, 12 hardy Stadium souls gave it their all. Ultra kudos to Bridget who ran in a vest & shorts. The best Stadium Runners were:

Males
1. Jamie Brannan - 4th
2. Simon Courtney - 5th
3. Tom Jaggar - 8th
And they won the 1st Male Team Prize too.

Females
1. Michaela Goodall - 60th & 5th female
2. Bridget Hughes - 122nd
3. Liz Courtney - 158th.

Yours truly also won the M60 prize.

Windmill 6 Sun 24th Mar

Our very own Matt Pattison organises this undulating 6 miler up on the tops. The best Stadium Runners were:

Males
1. Leo Timmins - 3rd
2. Rob Buchanan - 14th
3. Steve Taylor - 18th (and the day after running the Yorkshire Cakeathon marathon!)

Females
1. Fiona Willis - 140th
2. Becky Todd - 216th
3. Lucy Taylor - 233rd

Excellent running by everyone.
Annual General Meeting Monday 15th April 8.30pm

Hi members

Our AGM is coming up soon and I wanted to give you all some notice to get the date in your diaries! There will be some light refreshments available to put you on after the run and the meeting should be wrapped up by around 9.30.

The AGM is an opportunity to see what club secretaries have been up to over the last year and also hear any plans for the upcoming year. We will also vote in club secretaries for the upcoming year.

If you are a member and have an interest in any of the current roles then they are all up for renewal, as they are every year. I need to know of your formal interest in advance of the meeting if you intend to stand for any of the current positions. If you could contact me by email by 31st March then I can make any necessary plans for the AGM.

Most of you will know that Amy Oatway is stepping down, somebody has shown an interest in this role but we are also looking for someone to step in as an event organiser. This role would involve helping to organise specific running activities throughout the year, as you see fit, such as banana relay, train to train, pumpkin run, these are just examples of what we have done previously. Working alongside KAL and the committee you would be free to decide what types of things we do in future.

There will also be some time at the AGM for a question and answer session, so feel free to pop along if you simply just want to ask one of the committee about something that you feel would be useful for other people to hear.

If you have any questions about anything then please let me know.

Club Membership

Your club membership renewal is due. Our membership secretary Alison Cottam has been processing memberships before training between 6 and 6:30pm during March, and the last of those sessions will be on Monday 1st April.

After that, Alison will put out forms on club nights for those people who still want to renew along with Bank transfer details.

Additionally Alison will send out an email reminder to those members who have not renewed to do so by 30th April and hold one last membership session at the club on 26th April. Hopefully some of the GRAG runners may be interested in joining by then.

You can be a member of Stadium Runners for just £22 per year. £15 of the fee is for your individual affiliation to UK Athletics. Affiliation with UKA means that members are registered to run under the 'Stadium Runners' name and means that when you run with the club, either at a race or on a club night, you are insured. The other £7 goes towards all the extras that are provided to club members.

Also an email we receivd from Rosie O'Connell at Age UK:

Hello,
I hope you’re well.
I’m from the team who organise the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash, which will be
returning for its 34th year on Sunday 27th October 2019.
Our UK Athletics affiliated 10k race is fast and flat which attracts novices
right through to elite competitors racing for their PB. The route will take
participants from Leeds City Centre towards the historic Kirkstall Abbey
where they’ll loop back around to the city centre and cross the finish
line outside of the famous Leeds Town Hall.
Additionally, our participants get an extra feel-good factor as every penny
raised goes towards helping older people who are facing later life alone.
I wanted to reach out to you as I believe our PB-busting race is something
that your runners would be extremely interested in and our super-early bird
price of just £20 (plus 4% booking fee) has launched for a limited
time only.
I’d love it if you could help me spread the message about the return of
the Dash – I could post on your social media page if that’s the best way
to make sure everyone makes the most of the super-early bird offer? Let me
know what would be best.
I look forward to hearing your reply.
Kind regards,
Rosie

Contributions are really appreciated: If you run with Stadium Runners and have an experience or observation you want to write about, please send it in using the contact form. Your entry should have something to do with running! It could be a race report, stuff about training or nutrition, a book review etc.
