This weekend I'm doing the London leg of the World Triathlon Series race around last years London Olympics course through Hyde park and central London. Fortunately for me I wont be racing the professional guys as they have their own World Championship deciding race the next day, with Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, last years Gold and Bronze medallists going against Javier Gomez of Spain to decide this years World Champion.
My race is on Saturday, same Olympic course as last summer with a 1500m swim in the Serpentine, 40km bike and 10km run through Hyde Park. This is my first year of open water races and this is only my second attempt at an Olympic distance. My first attempt a month ago at the Salford Triathlon was not a great debut, I couldn't find my bike in the first transition then getting a puncture halfway round the bike course lost me 150 places and gave my confidence a nice dent. But you learn more from bad performances than good ones and so I'm all set for this weekend!
The Brownlees's will be at the sharp end of their race finishing in around 1 hr 45, my aim is 2:30.
Swimming is by far my weakest event but I have been working hard on it for a year now with generally improved results, but its still all about the run with me!!
The elite races are on BBC1 over the weekend if you want an idea of what its all about.
Fingers crossed for calm weather, and I'll update you next week on how it went!!
Simon
