A Farewell to Alices Run

According to the organisers Alices Run 2015 (Epilepsy UK) is advertised as the last of these races which is a shame if you like small challenging, friendly (and not far from Friendly) and fun races where post run cakes are home-made and cost an appetising 50p each.

The main issue with these multi terrain events is what shoes to wear trail or flat/road shoes. The flat shoe was the right choice today as slipping and falling would be a bit careless on the dry ground on the day and too much concrete under a trail shoe leaves a sore foot.

The race starts by Mythomroyds cricket ground. Setting of round the playing field we go onto the canal section heading back towards Halifax until the first of two challenging but shortish climbs brings the runners onto the cycle track heading the otherway up the Calder valley to Hebden Bridge. From then on its good undulating run over various states of path until we turn back next to Hebden Bridge station for a fast downhill back to Mythomroyd until the next main bit of tough running into the woods. Once out of the woods it is not long before we are into the school grounds with a grass finish.

A couple of dozen Stadium Runners made the short trip across to Calderdale for the race, apart from one of two Stadium Runners who love us so much they have moved to the Scottish borders (you know who you are - Helen?). We also had our photography team back for this race which is great especially for non Strava runners who can' otherwise prove they actually run - thanks to the 'Page Three'.

Jonny, this years Stadium race stalwart at the head of the pack was 3rd male home and just couldn't make inroads into the youngsters ahead of him. Lynn solidly glided into the finish as the 2nd place female overall. Behind them plenty of sterling work – 2nd stadium male was Steven T. just holding off Ian S. in a dual. Second and third Stadium female home was Ashley G. and Bridget respectively.

Other great runs and lets hear it for Jackie and Russell who both ran super races. Let's not hear it for me – but I took 20 seconds of my course PB which looks like it may last into eternity.
